Period positivity a part of campus life at ACU

Normalising menstruation and pastoral care are behind a breakthrough partnership between ACU and Libra that will provide free period care products to students.

Students now have access to free period care products via dispensers installed at a designated toilet across each of ACU’s seven campuses, as part of a 12-month trial.

Part of Libra’s Period Positivity Program, the initiative can generate positive educational outcomes by helping to support safety and wellbeing at university.

Care is the driving force behind the program, which was developed following a study that showed more than half of women admitted to hiding their period at home, work and school.

The Libra Taboo Study also showed 54 per cent of people agreed it was still taboo to talk openly about periods.

That is expected to change across ACU campuses where the provision of products will make daily life easier for students.

Period product dispensers have been placed in the following toilets across ACU campuses:

  • Brisbane – building 200 (across from Banyo Café)
  • North Sydney – building 502 (level 3)
  • Strathfield – building 640 (level 1)
  • Blacktown – building 910 (level 2)
  • Canberra – building 301 (ground level)
  • Melbourne – building 420 (ground level) and building 421 (level 6)
  • Ballarat – building 106

The Period Positivity Program trial will run from Semester 2 2024 to Semester 2 2025.
